Abstract:
Metal-modified mesoporous silica adsorbents (MCF-Ni,
MCF-Ti) were prepared in order to selectively remove
sulfur compounds from diesel fuel (470 ppmw of sulfur
compounds) at room temperature. The properties of
metal-modified mesoporous silica adsorbents such as BET
surface area, pore volume, pore size, amount of metal
were investigated. We showed that MCF-Ni and MCF-Ti can
adsorb sulfur compounds from commercial fuels
selectively at ambient temperature and pressure and the
sulfur content was reduced more than 50% wt in a
commercial diesel. In addition, the adsorption capacity
and the regeneration ability toward sulfur compounds
were investigated through batch experiments. The
readsorption capacity for all adsorbents were close to
their initial adsoption capacity when methyl isobutyl
ketone (MIBK) was used for washing adsorbents and the
regeneration ability of MCF-Ti adsorber was better than
MCF-Ni.
