Abstract:
In this study, treatment of Bagalkot-town municipal solid waste leachate was investigated by means of Electrocoagulation process. Iron electrodes were used as sacrificial electrodes in a lab-scale batch reactor of 1 liter capacity. The raw leachate was having COD of 4820 mg/L, 89NTU turbidity, yellow in color and 5.8 pH.The operating parameters such as voltage, pH and electrolysis time were optimized and were found to be 9V,5.8 and 35 minutes respectively for COD, color and turbidity removal. The maximum COD, color and turbidity removals were 92.1%, 94% and 95.5% respectively. The findings of the study proved that Electrocoagulation using Iron as sacrificial electrode can be considered as an effective alternative treatment method for landfill leachate treatment.
